Michigan Workers getting 44% pay bump

$7.40 minimum passes Michigan Senate.
Michigan will have one of the most generous minimum wage laws in the nation. Jennifer Granholm said she will sign it and it seems that the legistlation "came out of nowhere". The measure was approved on Thursday, authorizing a 44% boost over the next two years from $5.15 an hour to $7.40 in July 2008. However, most of this increase would come October 1st of this year, when the jump would be made to $6.95 an hour.

I found some figures on the minimum wage in other states:

Nearby states: Ohio $4.25 (some small companies), otherwise $5.15; Pennsylvania $5.15; Indiana $5.15; Wisconsin $5.70; Minnesota $6.15; Illinois $6.50.

Highest minimum wage:
Washington $7.63.
